Before setting foot in Egypt, Katie spent hours in the Egyptian Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York observing art lovers study and sketch the copies of ancient tomb paintings on the museum’s walls and viscerally understood the timeless appeal the ancient Egyptian mystique holds for us today. Shade of Sycamore is a delightful design, poetically depicting falling leaves and fruits of the sacred sycamore tree and is meant to conjure the Garden of Paradise, as glimpsed through Egyptian eyes. Go to the Egyptian wing and seek out the images from the Tomb of Usheret and pay particular attention to the beautiful blue of the branches. Shade of Sycamore, hand printed on 100% Belgian linen, looks appealing as small accents like pillows and window shades though Katie, after backing and upholstering the walls of her home office in the pattern, was astonished to realize how peaceful – like being in forest of falling leaves – such a dynamic design can be.
