Bacchus, named after the Roman God of wine and music, is directly inspired by the charming decorative paintings found in the Burial Chambers of Sennefer, Mayor of Thebes, c.1400 B.C.. A riot of painted vines with their sinuous stems and ripe, hanging grapes still proliferates across the rough-hewn surface of the tomb’s ceiling today. Katie kept the expressive freedom found in the original artist’s brush strokes but has brought calm to the pattern by formalizing the design into a large, simple repeat. Bacchus is hand printed on 100% Belgian linen.
