Moroccan Hamsa Synagogue Lantern circa 19th Century
The details on this unique 19th Century Moroccan synagogue lantern communicate much more than meets the eye. Note: the metal, five-fingered Hamsa- the symbolic hand that thwarts the “evil eye”- from which the chain and glass dangle. Hamsas are symbols of blessing and protection within the Jewish tradition. The bird beak shape of “the thumb” represents prosperity and fertility. An image of the Seal of Solomon/ Star of David decorates the glass. In legends, the Seal of Solomon gave Solomon the power to command demons and to speak with animals and can be seen as an amulet or talisman. How fun would it be to have this meaningful fixture in your home? This piece is currently not wired but we are happy to take care of this at an additional cost.
