Lion Head Columbian Door Knocker
Walk the colorful cobblestone streets of Cartagena and you can’t miss the fanciful knockers that adorn the old wood doors. A vestige of the 16th century Spanish saying, “”a tal casa tal aldaba,”” or “”to each house its door knocker,”” the design of the knocker historically signified the social status or profession of the resident. Lion head door knockers represented members of the army, militia leaders and other protectors of the city.
